The Skyline 50th Reunion will be the first one I've ever attended, and I am looking forward to it.  After our graduation in 1968, I got my B.A. in music  (voice) in Aug. 1971 from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, OR.  I lived overseas (Thessaloniki, Greece) after graduating from L & C at the close of an overseas study program in Vienna.  During that time I toured Europe, did short trips to Istanbul and  Egypt and a longer tour of Israel.  Following two years of teaching at an international school in Thessaloniki I went to Brattleboro, VT for an MAT program in Applied Linguistics (i.e. teaching ESL).  I returned to Portland and taught in Lewis & Clark's EFL program.  In 1976 I married my husband Rod Grafe. We have one child, Christopher, born in 1986.  Christopher's B.A. is in history, but he gave up his 30-hour-a-week job at Portland City Archives to work full time and be fully vested as a loan officer in a credit union.  When I asked him if he wouldn't miss his work in the Archives, he looked at me and said, "Time to grow up."  In 1990 I enrolled in the University of Oregon's doctoral program in English Literature with a concentration in 18th-century British women writers. With the Ph.D., I have just closed out a 35-year career at a small university in Portland, Warner Pacific U, teaching a variety literature and creative writing courses and serving as faculty advisor for the school's literary journal.  As a Professer Emerita, I may still do some teaching from time to time.  Over the last 35 years, delivering scholarly papers at conferences throughout the country has allowed me to travel.  Rod has come with me on these trips when his schedule has allowed it.  On our own time, we travel as much as time and resources allow.   So far we've zeroed in on England, Ireland, France, Spain, Italy, and Peru (hiked the Inca Trail to Machu Pichu).  Now that I'm retired (mostly) we want to get the "knee trips" in (ones that might be more physically demanding).  The ultimate goal is to make it around the world.  Meantime, I enjoy singing in a community chorale, keeping up our yard in our close-in, urban neighborhood and volunteering for the community newsletter.  We also try to take advantage of close access to the coast, the mountains and parks that our Northwest location offers.

After graduation, I worked for a year and then went on an LDS Mission to Sourhern California in April of '69. Many may remember that there was a quota on missionaries because of the Vietnam War. Two days after I got back I was ordered to report  for my physical and remembered I had a 1A status. By the time that was over, the draft was winding down and I did not get drafted. Too fat with flat feet anyway!! Class of '73 at the U of U, with a one year fellowship at the Tepper School of Business. Have been in "sales "ever since. Was accepted into the  Tabernacle Choir Tenor section where I spent 23 years. Juggling work and family and traveling to 30 countries along the way. Many may recall Mr. (Don) Ripplinger at Skyline. He also was the associate conductor  of the MOTAB for many years. Than was great to renew that association. Semi-retired in the 4th year of a 5 year committment when my company was bought out.  Traveling when possible and enjoying 13 grandkids. My wife went to Highland which I forgave her for. We still have the odd discussion on high school things. I was pretty quiet at Skyline. But had good memories and good friends. Anxious to see you all again.

I've made the rounds sice graduation ... After graduating (again) from the U of U in 1973 I worked as an Engineer in California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona and finally Massachusetts.  Living now in New Hampshire with my wife Patty ... Two daughters are grown & gone, one back in SLC teaching elementary school in Draper.  We're still pondering coming back out West where I belong one of these days!

Hi All: I can't believe I am really writing this email on our Guest Book.  Afterall I am on the Reunion Committee.  While you all are celebrating our 50th REUNION I will be getting ready to do the LOTOJA on Saturday morning.  I actually got chosen in the lottery this year and will be riding my bike 212 miles from Logan to Jackson in under 18 hours (anyway if I am to finish before the course closes).  I will be thinking of you with such fond memories.  I had hoped to actually run into that one special girl who made my high school days doable.  She knows who she is.  We were a special class.  I will be thinking of you during my ride on Saturday.  Party Hardy and thanks for the memories! -Lynn-

Hello again from Teton Valley, Idaho.  Sure looking forward to our 45th reunion in September...the 40th was a blast!  Still up here enjoying the good life in the mountains with my husband of 18 years, our horses, cats and various forms of wildlife that come to visit....last winter it was a pack of wolves...didn't go far without my gun by my side!  I'm mostly retired from my bookkeeping business now and just enjoying the easy going farm life.  The winters are rough up here but the rest of the year makes it all worth it!   Hope to see you all in September!  Be sure to stop me and say "Howdy"!

Who's going? It's one thing to go and not have anyone recognize you, but it's another not to know the people who are there.

Hello to all you EAGLES!!  Rob and I are looking forward to seeing you.  Life is sweet.  Had a tender feelings as we visited with Gary Emery's widow...and sad for the time of being disconnected.  A 50 year reunion doesn't come along again and we're so grateful to be part of such a great legacy.  Rob is still working as a district court judge here in Davis County....and enjoys the fulfillment of hoping to impact lives for the better.  I've been retired from a life long social work career for 9 years....and have helped build and maintain an orphan home in Kenya.  We've had 3 wonderful daughters and several foster children, all who have been great blessings in our lives.  Our great education from the good old days gave both of us a lot of blessings along the way.  Thanks to those who have worked to prepare our reunion.  We're grateful to be able to attend.

I just read about the committee's suggestion of "mini reuinions" for our 55th.  Sorry, I don't mean to be rude but at our age, we don't have time to beat around the bush.  This idea is far from being "inclusive".  I was hoping for another scaled down reunion like our 45th at Evergreen Park, which was a blast...and everyone was invited.  Mini reunions are great for the people who still live in the Salt Lake area and have been able to keep in touch with our classmates but for the rest of us, well let me just say this reminds me of the "cliques" in high school.  So, if we aren't inclined to form our own little "reunions", we are exluded from celebrating our 55th reunion?  Sorry,  I'm just a little old country girl from Idaho but this idea hits me wrong...sounds very elitist.  In these trying times, we should be wanting to reconnect with ALL of our old friends, not just "hand picked" ones.  Bad idea.

Wow over 700 former classmates throughout the world, making a difference. Each of us are now at a time in life when we can make a difference-where 40 years ago, we just thought we could.  I have thoroughly enjoyed reading about your unique experiences.  Thanks for sharing. Kelly Sheppard

Now we're eligible for Social Security, Medicare and senior discounts at the golf courses.  Retired but not entirely-still have a few clients that do interesting print work. Live by Skyline High School and heard the fireworks when the football team got possession of "The Rock" last night. On the fence about the 50th.

So sorry Doug and I were unable to make it to the 45th reunion! The timing just didn't work for us this time. We're still living in Virginia near Washington DC and life is good, busy and hectic all at the same time.  It's fun  living so close to DC and all that goes on there. I love looking at the Skyline web page and seeing everyone's comments and pictures.  Please keep them coming!  We totally enjoyed the 40th reunion and are looking forward to the 50th!

Looking back I realize what a Class Act Skyline was. It always seems those that had fun in High School come to the Reuions. I transfered in Spring of 67 from Gresham, OR and needless to say it took a little time to adapt. The Girls were cute, State Street was great, and looking back I left to fast June of 1968 for the Bay.Back in Oregon since 1972!!If Robyn Aguirre or Gary Nichols would show up next reuion ..............

Reflecting with friends enriches the soul, (July 10, 2018)   Interesting to me just how vivid the memories from the life  of a 16, 17 & 18 year old are, even now, 50 years later.  Because of those deep seated memories, we are endeared to one another remembering the Way we Were.   That is why I hope to see many of you  at the Ealge 50 Year  Reunion.   Hoping to visit with People like  Alan Grube, Ed Zieber, Larry Jones, Diane Hendrickson, Vickie Rowley, just as much as I hope to see the Pete Black's, Dave Granere's, Jeff Lyman's, Steve Isom's, Scott Robbins, Lynn Wahlquist, Patti Hambleton's & Karen Carlson's of my past life.  Obviously I could list another 400 or 500 names (but I am sure that I would wear you out; but you get the message).  I would like to visit with people from that era of my life, for just a moment.   I would like to avoid  feeling the empty sadness I felt  when I read of Gary Emery's & Lance Temple’s passing--not having really had a chance to share with them their victories & burdens of life, before they took the elevator to their Hamlet in the Heavens.  Please come to our 50 year Reunion and reflect together on Who we Were--as much as who we have become -- we do share some amazing memories. See you for 3 hours on September 7th, if nothing else to catch a smile & say Hi.  Kelly Sheppard

Hi to all. I was on a mission for the 5th year reunion, on my honeymoon for the 20th, never heard about the 30th, so figured now was as good a time as any to reconnect. I remember when my mom flew to Minnesota for her 40th year reunion and how ancient that seemed back then. Little did I know how fast time could fly! After graduating from BYU in advertising and a mission to Austria, I spent 13 years at the "B" as a publications manager for intercultural publications.I professionally retired in 1988 when I married and relocated to Santa Maria, California. After stops in Watsonville, CA and Mesa, AZ, we returned to Utah and settled in Layton in 2000.We have been blessed with two daughters. One just graduated from high school in June, and the younger one is a senior. Unfortunately, we haven't had grandkids to help buffer the teenage years in our old age!I have kept active with free-lance contract work, part-time jobs at the girls' schools, volunteering in the PTA, etc. etc.I was happy when Layton High beat Skyline in this year's state football tournament, but a part of me was still an Eagle, and I wouldn't have felt badly if Layton had lost.I hope Joe Morley's BBQ is as good as advertised. It will be interesting to see if we remember more than we have forgotten from those days so many years ago.

Hello from Tucson (Oro Valley), Arizona!  I'm the mother of 8 and the grandmother of 18 at this point!  My husband, Richard, is a recently retired podiatrist after 42.5 years of practice!  I stay busy taking care of him, helping with grandchildren, and traveling to see our children who are across the nation.  I also enjoy my work as a temple worker here at our new, beautiful Tucson Temple.  We finally traveled to Europe with our two youngest daughters.  We went from Germany, up to Finland, London, Paris, Sweden and everywhere in between.  We'd love to go back one of these days--maybe a river cruise this time!  We hope to see you at the reunion!  And if you're ever in the Tucson area, please let us know!

Hi Everyone, Just wanted to say hello to everyone.  Doug and I had planned to make it to the 50th reunion but ended up not being able to make it.  We are still living in the Washington DC area.  Doug retired last year and we are trying to decide where to spend our “golden years”. I worked as an ordinance worker in the Washington DC temple for almost 10 years.  It is currently closed for major renovations and won’t reopen until the end of 2019.  We are hoping to relocate somewhere that has a temple close by.  We are also considering a mission but that give us many options.  Life is good and we are blessed.  Hopefully we will have another reunion and we will be able to make it to that one.  I would have loved to tour the school.  High school has so many good memories for me.  It’s kind of sad that the school is being torn down. Thank you to the reunion committee for all your hard work.   Even though we didn’t make it to the reunion, we appreciate all the work it is to put it together. Hope to see everyone in 5 Years?? Doug and I are really looking forward to coming to the reunion. Somehow we missed hearing about the 30 year so we're glad to be able to come to this one. We are currently living in Great Falls, Virginia where Doug works as an Engineer for Northrop Grumman. I have the luxury of being a full time Mom, even though the nest is almost empty. We have 4 children, two are currently living at home and attending college. Our son just returned from a mission to Moscow Russia so we are happy to have him home and safe. Our youngest daughter is attending school and hoping to transfer to the U of U to study architecture and interior design. Our other two are married and living nearby. See you all in September.

Hi Everyone,What a great reunion!  A BIG thanks to the committee - you did a wonderful job with all the planning.  It was such fun to see everyone.  My only regret was that I did not have more time to spend there, and that some meaningful conversations got cut short.  We are lucky to have a terrific class.  I look forward to the next get-together.  Take care, friends, Maurine

Every time a reunion rolls around I swear I am going to go. It never works out. I also always show as lost. As the last time I would like to note "I was lost but now am found." We are living on a small island in the Puget Sound. We love it and are shocked when we go to Seattle and realize we live in Mayberry.  I am still working on my non-profit making quilts for wounded warriors. We have made 27,123 to date. I still find a great irony in the fact that I spent a great part of my time protesting the Vietnam war. It was really brought home to me when my daughter found a newspaper article of me being arrested. Being Vietnamese she is more than happy to share with me my "wrong thinking" at that time. I have lost touch with my Skyline friends which saddens me.  Wish you all a wonderful reunion.

Hello again from Teton Valley, Idaho.  Still here!  Retired fully now from my bookkeeping business and just thankful to live in this beautiful place where my husband of 24 years and I can sit on our deck and watch the Tetons grow!  I've been blessed to have officiated over 80 weddings in our little valley over the years.  So nice to see couples starting out on a new adventure.  Keeps me young at heart!  Looking forward to seeing many of you at the 50th reunion in September.

Ohmygosh!  What a fun time at the Skyline High Reunion.  I thought the dinner on Friday was great . . . but little did I know what was ahead on Saturday night at the park!  The band was so fun and the peeps were so nice and friendly (much better than in high school!)   Sorry for those who could not make it.  And a BIG THANKS for those who made it happen.  Love to all, Joanne

Wow, what a fun weekend!  It was great to see all of you and to talk to many of you – the time flew by – I would have liked to catch up with many more. At the end of Saturday night’s event, I couldn’t help thinking how blessed I’ve been my whole life to have known so many wonderful people – starting with East Millcreek Elementary and continuing through Skyline High School and the University of Utah. Though high school was only a short three-four years, it formed a solid foundation of friendship for many of us that even the passing of 40 years hasn’t eroded.  I hope to see you – and many of those who couldn’t make it this time around – at the next Eagle ’68 reunion.

I graduated from Weber State as an RN and worked at LDS Hospital until 1996 when I moved to Lincoln City, OR to work as the sole nurse in their ER...still here.  I know I always kept to myself in HS but nursing brought me to life.  Not many will remember me, since I was such a nerd except maybe  Karla Salazar and Terrie Hansen who were my best of friends. I see where many of our rank has fallen...hopefully in peace.

Hi Everyone,It will be great to see all of you on Friday evening.  I haven't seen most of you since the 30th.  I have lived in Glenwood Springs, Colorado since 1981 and we have raised our 2 sons there.  I am director for dance at the Glenwood Springs Center for the Arts and my husband of 32 years, John, is a landscape architect/land planner.  Sounds like a fun reunion - thanks for all the planning and work on it.  I hope we don't look TOO old - 40 years - that's a long time!  See you on Friday!Maurine

Hi everyone!  I have to admit life has treated me well.  I got two wonderful kids and business of 23 years, surveying and engineering, has treated me well.  You know the day after we graduated I left home, flew to California where I worked and went to school, but soon found myself having to serve our country.  After that experience I came back to Salt Lake where I soon found employment in an engineering company and I've been at it for 35 years now.Today my recreation is mostly golf and I play at Alpine Country Club.  I've been into thoroughbreds and a little boating over the years, but they require a lot of money and time. lolI've been to several of our reunions but I'm sure this one will be the best.

comment by Mike McDonald

I have been reading these entries for weeks now - about time I signed in.  Life has been rich.  I have a wonderful, talented wife and six amazing kids.  We live north of Seattle and I have been very family centered, so much so that I haven't spent time with any of my old Skyline friends although I do see Zina Brown Kinkaid every once in awhile. It will be wonderful to check in with you all at the reunion and to play some golf with whomever makes it to the course.I thought our Skyline years were priceless.  We were good friends - good and friends - and it will be good to renew those friendships.

It's hard to believe it's been 40 years. I moved to San Francisco in 1970 where I stayed until 2003 when I retired to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. It was just declared a World Heritage site. It's also known as the party capital of Mexico. I married Jon Sievert in 1980 and we have one wonderful daughter who works at the Oakland Zoo. I won't be able to make it to the reunion but I asked Laura Horiuchi who I have kept in touch with over the years, to say Hi for me.
